Laguna 3 rear foglights

Hi, I have a weird problem with my rear foglights.
When I turn them on they foglight indicator on the dashboard comes on for 1 second and goes off. It stays off until I turn the engine off and back on again and then it will do the same again.
It did this for a while but now turning them on does nothing.
Does anyone know where the rear foglamp relay and fuse are?

Thanks
Iain

hi

you tell us what happens to the dash indicator lamp, what about the lamp at the rear of the car ? does it do the same ?

Hi, when this initially happened I was driving the car in the fog. When I checked them they were not on and from what I could tell from reflections of the roadside they didn't flash on and off as the indicator did.
Now the indicator doesn't come on and neither do the foglamps.

hi

Ok- thanks for extra info.

first checks
  • bulb (s) in rear fog lamp - remove and check they work
  • fuse in fuse box - check it hasn't blown
  • check for power at rear lamp - get some one to operate switch for you whilst you check

check all other lamps and switches work - report back on any other items not working
they may be related (or not !)

Hi, everything else works.
The rear fogs are LED by the looks of it.
There is a fuse box in the glove box but hardly any of those are related to the lights. I've located a box under the bonnet by following the clicking from the front fog lamps and that contains fuses I have yet to check. I don't hold out much luck finding one of those blown though as that wouldn't explain the indicator going on and off. It also wouldn't explain why I can't hear a relay for the rear foglamps.
It appears that if it is a relay, which would be my first thought, you have to replace the entire assembly which is appalling if that's the case.

Well I have checked every fuse and as I suspected none are blown.
The rear lights are LEDs and all they do is come on at various brightness levels for brake, side of foglight. They work as sidelights and brakelights so no reason to suspect they won't work as foglights.
So they are not being driven correctly, the fault is either the relay, loom or switch. The relays are not accessible and from what I can see I have to replace the entire assembly, I've found something similar but it is not the exact part, the link is below. I find it hard to believe that anyone would build a car and not make a relay replaceable.

What I really need is the wiring layout for the car so I can check the loom out and see if the switch signal is reaching the box. And if need be build my own foglamp driver.

Totally lost here ...the Led tail lights should always be the same brightness the fog on the bottom of the bumper is NOT an LED if the standard bulb is in it ..if your tail lights are dimming down when you put other lights on is pointing to an earth issue which also sounds like the same issue on your fog light ...so check your earth point for rear lights

Ha, I had the car parked so close to the wall I couldn't see the fog lights in the bumper. I say lights but there is only one, cheapskates.
The LEDs get brighter when the brake pedal operates so I assumed it was similar with the fogs.
Anyway, the foglight was full of water and the bulb was duff, replacing it has made no difference though sadly.

What is weird to me is the fact that the indicator originally came on for a second and went off and it wouldn't repeat this until I turned the engine/ignition off and on again.

I have cleaned up the foglight connections but that hasn't fixed it.
So the dashboard light still doesn't come on and there is no sound of a relay clicking like on the front foglights.

The front foglight relay is in a box (a photo of which I've enclosed) so I'm assuming the rear foglight relay is also in there but it appears that it is not intended that anyone goes in it. I need to remove all the fuses and connectors and then possibly I may be able to lever the top off. I can see a PCB in there and the tops of what look like small relays, I can only hope they are not soldered into the PCB. The foglight switches are intermittent in that they don't latch so there is something to make the relay latch on, additionally they don't come on if the main lights are not on. I don't know if this intelligence is handled by some electronics in the box or elsewhere.

I'm assuming the foglight switch is connected directly to this relay/fuse box so what I'd like to do is check the signal from the switch appears there. I'm pretty certain there is nothing wrong with the switch due to the initial way in which the fault showed itself but checking it at the box would rule that part of the loom out along with the switch.

So is it known what is in this box, what it does and if I'm supposed to be able to service it?
I know it's a long shot but is there any wiring diagram out there?

Cheers
Iain

hi

looking at the wiring diagram - rear fog doesn't have a relay, it runs off the 10 A dash box fuse. the dash light also runs from this fuse.

Just went out and checked all the 10A fuses again and although none of them were blown the foglight now works as does the dash indicator.
Only difference this time is that the ignition was on and it all got a bit narked at me unplugging fuses as I got a couple of warnings pop up on the dashboard. Makes me think it just needed a cold start.

Cheers for the help folks, next time I get a problem on it I will turn it off and on again and see what happens :)

Hi All

Just joined as, after five years of fairly incident Laguna 3 dci ownership, all has been ticketyboo, more or less, however, I have a rear fog light MoT fail issue. The bulb and holder are fine, continuity checks out ok. I think there is an issue with the fuse box/relay box as pictured by the OP above (appreciate this is four years ago - don't know if I should have started a new thread...hmmm, anywho...). Front fog lights are ok and I can hear the relay in the box clicking on and off, silence from the box when the rear switch is operated.

I have tried taking the box apart, seems firmly glued together at one corner where the main electrical feed goes in, didn't want to break it so chickened it. I am presuming the relays under this cover, fed by fuses (fuses are all good) are not replaceable individually - has anyone got any further opening the black box and discovered otherwise?? I see a second hand risky ebay purchase looming, cannot afford a dealer price (although will check there on Monday)...

All comments/help on my logic and/or the answer, gratefuly received....

HI can somebody tell me which bulbs are in rear fog lights renault laguna 3. And which bulbs are in cabin
As this has nothing to do with the original post, what info are you after? bulb type?

The rear fogs should be P21W,. most of the interior lights are c5w.
