Rear fog light not working - Grand Scenic 2009 **Fixed**

Hi all,

I have a Renault Grand Scenic, 2009 model 1.5 litre diesel. The rear fog light does not work, I have removed and tested the light bulb and the light bulb socket, both work.

There is no voltage reaching the light bulb, confirmed using a multimeter.

Looking in the user manual it appears that there is no fuse for the rear fog light, but looking at the fuse box in the glove box it is very different to what is documented in the manual. There are more fuses in the box compared with the description in the user manual.

Is it possible that some of the fuses in the fuse are actually used and one of these is the rear fog light fuse? Or is the rear fog light on the same fuse as the brake lights, etc...

What else could it be?

What RenBen1 is wondering, if you lift the cover on your tow bar electrics, inside where the pins are, you will see a piece of plastic slightly protruding the rest of the housing, around the outside part of the pins, this is the rear fog light switch, .
This disables the rear fog when your towing electrics are plugged in, make sure it is free to move, its about 2mm diameter, so not easy to see, see if it is forced in,.
Normally need a torch to see it,, press on this a few times, see if the fog light illuminates

hi

I know it sounds daft but when you check the fog lights the engine must be running and headlights on.

Only saying this as we had someone here a few weeks ago who was trying to find same fault with out starting the engine as he was working in his garage - didn't want to gas himself !

Hello all,

With regards to the tow bar, apparently the fog light is only disabled if you have two plugs (for towing caravans). I only have the one 7 pin plug for small trailers.

My local garage couldn't find any reason for it not working, then on day two they finally decided to plug the computer in....

There were faults, they cleared the faults and now the fog light is working!!

It is going back in next week to check if any of the faults return.

Thank your help. Much appreciated.

Just in case it helps anyone else, the rear fog lights were not working on our 2007 Espace, twin Renault towing sockets from new, one white one black. Turning the rear fogs on gave the symbol on the dash and a relay click, taking out fuse 3 in the left-hand dash tray stopped the click and the symbol – so all working that end of the car. Checked both bulbs OK, holders had good earth on both but no 12v. Checked the rear fog pin at about 2 O’clock in the black trailer socket with the keyway at the bottom and no 12v. Wasted hours trying to trace the cabling to test when I found this thread. Had never heard of the automatic car fog disable before, but then I’m not a caravaner! No obvious signs of a switch to cut off the vehicle fogs with a trailer plugged in but in desperation gave the whole socket a blast of WD40, wanged the plug in and out vigorously a dozen times and low and behold the trailer fog was working, took the plug out and the car fogs were working. No signs of any intermittency after. Marginally in disbelief, I can take the car for MOT now.
