I had something similar when I had a Vauxhall Calibra.

The battery light kept coming on then the engine management light then the engine lost power........turned out to be a poor earth connection to the alternator. This was coupled with a duff alternator.

Not saying this is the same problem but may give a clue?

Got a new French Striker, got a new Dutch midfielder, Southgate has lost his Woody!. And, unfortunately, still got a space in the trophy cabinet...

Hello and welcome to the Forums.
I would first have the ECU codes read and that might give you a few pointers.
Does the light come on before it cuts out or after?.When this happened did the engine restart immediately or did it need a lot of cranking over?.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

A Clip diagnosic test best advise, as it reads any stored faults and gives you the context of when the fault happened engine speed/load and so on.

Before u get the car into a garage to check the fault codes ( may be an expensive trip unless they do it for free ) I would go get a free battery / alternator test from your local motor factors.

Sounds very much like a loose lead or faulty alternator diode.

You can check the batt terminals yourself by removing the plastic trim at the front passenger side of the engine bay..

Excusing the scribble here's a pici

Also, make sure the battery cables are fastened securely and not corroded. If you find corrosion around the battery terminals, clean the terminals and the cables thoroughly. To do this, just mix a little baking soda with water and use a toothbrush to carefully brush around the cable connectors. If corrosion is excessive, replace the cables. Make sure you dry the area before starting the car.
Hope this helps
