Central Locking

Morning All,Can one of you Experts advise me please-The problem is easy enough to describe, the central locking no longer operates from the key fob atall, however there is a bit of a story leading up to the loss of operation? The Vehichle is a Renault Scenic Alize Mk1 with the 8valve K7M engine fitted T reg,we've had the car 10+ years now and had very little in the way of problems.About 4 years ago the car was driven in the drive and next morning would not start-turned over but no firing atall-checked the obvious and ended up calling mobile lecky out,the long and short of the problem was the imobiliser he told us and our 2options were to change the ECU,ignition coller and keys etc or disconnect the immobiliser which was a lot cheaper, the car has little in the way of value so we went for the second option. Now the car would run, central locking still worked and the red immobiliser light blinked on/off if the car was running or stopped, for the next 3years or so all was well, then I was fiddling with on of the courtesy lights in the roof by the back seats and caused a bit of a splash trying to get the blown bulb out and that was that-no central locking?since got the light sorted and replaced fob battery, also disconnected the main battery thinking it may reset something but still no central locking and now no blinking red immobiliser light-I only mention about the immobiliser as I've read you use that red light to reset the key fob on some systems which I can no longer do? I should add the central locking operates without any problems from the switch on the dashboard, Any thoughts or advice gladly received, Regards Paul.

Hi Ralph and thanks for your reply,Sorry mate I put splash which was my way of saying flash, either way I did create a short for a second or two, replaced the festoon bulb and I think I did blow the fuse(this happened a while ago) that got the light up and running but the central locking hasn't worked since?

Must be to do with shorting the light, are there instructions in the used manual
how to re sync the fob? tried the other fob if you have it? when you reconnected
the battery did you turn the side lights to on before reconnecting? this can help.
could be it's something to do with the way the immobilizer was disabled, though
I take it the car still starts ok.

Ensure ignition switched OFF.
Press vehicle central door locking button for more than 5 seconds.
Doors should lock then unlock.

Carry out the following within 10-15 seconds:
Press first key lock/unlock button twice ,once on some models
Press second key lock/unlock button twice ,once on some models
Doors will lock or unlock.
See if this helps

Hi Ours2012 and thank-you for your reply,I shall be outside as soon as I've finished me bite to eat and check that fuse again-would love to find it blown,I wonder where the radio frequency signal actually talks to in the car? With the earlier infra red one there was a receiver up by the front interior light console in the roof.Iv checked the key fob and that's giving out its signal so Inless your fuse idea comes up trumps I'm not sure which way to go?

Hi Ours 2012- just checked me fuse its shown as the four car doors on the fuse box cover and it does seem to be ok also the interior lights went out when I removed the fuse so that all fits, then went on to the resetting, however on my car when I hold down the central locking button on the dash it will lock or unlock but will not do both-also I remember the indicators would flash when we used to lock the car-they now don't flash atall?

Hi Ralph,Yes you would think there has to be a connection I agree,I have tried re-syncing the fob several times but no success and we only ever had one fob with the car, have to say I didn't have any services on when I re-connected the battery? Yes it may well have something to do with the immobiliser tho I have to say for two/three years the central locking and car starting was absolutely fine so it does seem to come back to whatever I did with the light.

Hi Lancs dave and thanks for coming back to me,I don't have an ALIM UC BIC but I do have a ALIM UCH? Which is next to the symbol with the four doors on it which I took to be the central locking one,as for if it's the last of the phase ones-to be honest I couldn't say,It's a Renault Megane Scenic RT Alize date of reg-14/5/99 according to the reg document?

Could be either at that age.
Phase 1 had grilles in the bumper and Phase 2 had grilles in the bonnet.
Ther might have been crossover parts on late phase 1 models where they test stuff for phase 2.
Give us the 4 digits after VF1 in your chassis number if you can.

Ok, check that fuse. It has implications for immobiliser and remote control..

Ok Lancs dave-I understand, the four digits after VF1 are JA0F( I think that's a zero not a letter 'o') I checked the fuse and it seems to be good,as with the central locking fuse the courtesy lights went out as i removed it and there was a beep when I replaced the fuse but no key fob operation?

Looks like it's the last of the phase 1 models with that code.

That fuse is clearly doing it's job and can't see why the immob light has gone.
The locking fault will be tied into the same problem I'm sure.
Don't have any further info on the set up you have unfortunately.
It sounds like you may have shorted something in the body control module and not knowing how the immobiliser was bypassed I'd be tempted to not go messing.
Wouldn't want to end up with the car not running.

If someone has more accurate info they'll jump in.

Ok Dave, well thanks very-much for your efforts and I think your right,it's strange tho the car ran fine and the central locking worked after the immobiliser was disconnected as the opo told us it would, but something happened when I messed with the light,I don't think the immobiliser light that stopped blinking after I disconnected the battery has much to do with it given that there is no immobiliser working anymore but something happened, anyway I've always got the key we tend to get a bit lazy it's so easy just to press that button, All the best and thanks again.
