If the engine is fixed correctly there is no reason to think the car would have an inherent weakness afterwards. I appreciate you situation but it may be worth checking out some other prices but in all honesty until the head is removed the full extent of any damage will not be known.
When considering the cost of repairs you'll need to consider the overall condition of the car in case you need to spend more money in the near future.

Thanks for the advice. I'll shop around a bit. Any idea what a garage will charge to do an autopsy and advise on a price? The other thing is that the car is good condition in body, always passed MOT.....but a 1.2 engine on 68000 miles. Maybe I would not be able to buy one for the cost of the repair! Thanks for all your help!
