starting problems

I have a Renault 19 1.8i 8v petrol cabriolet 1993

been trying to find a funky smell that has been coming into the car i tracked it battery overflow. The car was running fine before removal of battery and now wont start. The engine turns over fine but i can smell no fuel after a long period of turning over from the exhaust. Assume fuel pump iis not engaging. I have been told the immobiliser has been disabled by the previous owner. The fuel pump relay is fine and battery is not an issue as this still happens when trying to jump start it.All fuses are fine and the central locking is still operational. I dont have a key fob as previous owner has lost it and had the immobiliser disabled.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

hi m8, this will be quite a post but bear with me lol
if you are positive its fuel then follow the steps below,
also a smelly batery indacates over chargeing

to check if its just the fuel pump/ fuel pump loom, and not the imobilizer, you will have to check the fuel pump realy is getting its feeds.

now im hopeing mr frenchy uses euro din numbers lol

on the relay, you will eathier have 4 pins or 5 pins, if it has 7 ignore and let me know and ill give you the other pin numbers.
the 4 pin realy will be numbered as follows, 30/85/86/87 on the 5 pin relay you will have also number 87A

pin 30 is batery feed
pin 85 is ground
pin 86 is ignition feed
pin 87a has contanuity with pin 30 when relay is not energised.
87 is the output of the relay when energised.

you will have to check these feeds at the relay, if all is ok check wire from pin 87 to the fuel pump conector has good continuity, then check the ground, if all is ok and you cant here the pump working then the pump is cream crakered.
if you have a missing feed at the relay then trace it back from here, if your not sure repost your findings and we will help bud,
it looks alot to do m8 but it takes 5 min and all the guessing work out of it.
good luck alex
