Hi guys and thanks in advance,

I bought a second hand used Renault, (Ive always drove Renault cars for 10 years), had six months warranty with dealer in Belfast, from week one of owning it, it has failed to start several times on me, Ive googled all sorts for some sort of answers to do with ignition, so I am a wee bit aware of spark plugs, ignition failure, starter motor and that, my car has an autual key to stick in

The car in question is Renault Clio Bizu 2011, I have only 36 hours left on warranty and I left it down today to get looked at, the dealership phoned me back and has basically said, they have found no fault with the ignition itself or motor, but the problem is a very badly broken spring on the back, and a injection software update problem, they are keeping the car in overnight as it is undriveable,

Warning sirens are ringing in my head, am I being fobbed off, am I being paranoid,

They have basically said the car wont start sometimes due to a software update needed, how does a car fail to start have anything to do with an update needed???

many cars when you goto a dealer for a service get software updates you dont know about have a search on the net to see if any updates are around for your car its the same as updates for your computer they find a fault and fix it (some times )

And sometimes blame the fault on the fix.
Or even fix it till it has a fault.

Bottom line, if under warrantee and this is what they say will fix it, let them.
But do make it clear that the fault has been reported within the warrantee period and if the magic update has no effect, you still expect them to cure it under the warrantee terms.

Thank you so much for replying Ron, I really appreciate it, as a woman I'm scared of being treated like an idiot and fobbed off only for the engine or ignition to fail on me totally in a couple of days time,

Ive sorta been googling for the last 2 hours and coming up with nothing, x

Thank you so much for replying dancing dad, I really appreciate it, I was hoping that a fault would be found, completely fixed and then I drive off in the sun set,

As that is not looking likely, route b will be taken, if it happens again, I'm gong to go the route u mentioned as I cant be without a car,

Ive never had a problem like this before and Ive drove Renault cars for 10 years, broke springs, have had lots of those in all the clios Ive had but never ignition problems, hence the freaking out bit, lol
