I know Renault chop and change stereo brands on a regular basis, so maybe the same instructions won't work for all. I had a car with a Clarion unit once and put the wrong code in. I waited ages for it to clear, before deciding to RTFM and then discovering that all you had to do was hold the 'Band' button down for five seconds to get another go at entering the code.

So if all else fails, try holding various front panel buttons down for a few seconds. That might just do the trick.

.....or t'other half has built up an amazing "lock out before re-try" period. Have you tried leaving the radio on, overnight plus, with "code" showing, and see if it goes back to flashing zeroes. Remember every failed attempt doubles the time scale. Pre 96 also tended to reset after a period in the freezer - don't know if that's still current tho'.

Suddenly this afternoon the device released itself from the clutches of the dreaded "CODE" to finally flash "0000" so we're back in business. Looks Like I could have a Pre 96 radio with a 72 hr blackout

Thanks to all for your suggestions
