1999 mk1 code reader

I am under the impresion that renault are using a different protocol to connect code readers.

I have used the search option but am more confused....

I need an answer to which code reader is compatibile with my 1999 scenic. K7M 1.6 8v.
Currently in greavey's garage:
2004 16v 1.6 scenic

Hmm, might be tempted into buying one myself.
