steering lock

I have an 01 Laguna II 1.9dci sports tourer. the keycard opens the car but when put into the card reader the only thing that happens is the immobiliser light stops flashing and is permantly light whist the key card is in. The steering is not locked in the car and I able to remove the steering lock. can I fit a second hand one and also does any one know if a second hand multi timer unit, ECU , with matching keycard was put into car would this work. have tried another key card reader which does work as was tested in another Lag II and didnt help. Also have ensured I tested battery and it is showing full 12volts

Welcome to the forums. The steering lock cannot be swapped vehicle to vehicle. If you were to swap the parts you say you would also need the injection computer from the donor vehicle.

Lightbulb Laguna II Steering Lock

I though that I would add some addition info from my experiences, I had this problem twice ! and it was back to renault garage for a new coded steering lock @ 250
I have now found the cause, a small split in the sunroof seal was letting in excessive water when it rained this would overflow into the headlining and would track down and effect the ECU timer unit electrics. causing the car to be immobilised with steering lock OFF.

A new steering lock will learn the code from your car but a secondhand one will probably need recode by renault dealer.
