Have you checked all the fluid levels under the bonnet?.If they all seem well then it sounds like a poor earth connection between the engine and body/battery somewhere or a loose/poor connection in the wiring loom.

I'd try and replicate the problem with someone sitting in the car watching the dash (with the engine running) and you pushing and pulling all the connections under the bonnet. It should show up where the problem is.

Any other symptoms?.Poor starting/running etc?.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Did you bleed the cooling system correctly after the overhaul?

A problem well stated is a problem half solved !
