I have exactly the same issue with my Laguna, but drivers side. Took it to the garage last Sat and they confirmed a fault C/L motor. Having it replaced this Saturday.

The noise is definitely coming from the solenoid so I guess it will need to be replaced?

How hard is this to do and does anyone have a rough idea of how much a new solenoid will cost?

Did my drivers side lock before Christmas. There are two versions, one with a dead lock function. This more expensive version with a six way connector is £115 from you local dealer.

Internally the lock unit has motors to do the work. Although the motors have metal gears the locking rods have plastic gear ways. I guess yours are worn.

I had a similar problem on my Clio a few weeks back - tried lubricating it in situ with no joy. I took it out give a good soaking with Plus-gas turning it through various angles to let the relasing agent run inside. Let it sit for 30 min or so - gave it a shot of spray grease and now works OK. Worth a try in my book
