80% of TDC sensor faults are down to its connections and not the sensor itself. So by taking it out and replacing they may have jiggled the connections and improved continuity. The best option is to have the connections permanently soldered and insulated using shrink insulation.
For some weird reason mechanics are more inclined to believe their dumb diagnostics before bothering their backsides to have a look and check. I have lost count many years ago the number of times diagnostic equipment has failed to detect a TDC problem.
Are we breeding a generation of mechanics that are as dumb as their machines
