Laguna not starting

Had this problem get progressively worse this last few weeks.

Initially it was taking 2 or 3 button presses for the car to start if it was cold which I didn't think too much about. However early one morning it failed to start all together. I didn't try for long as I had to run to catch the train. But that same afternon it started on the first attempt.

However on Tuesday morning still quite cold it started first time, drove to the train station and parked up. When I got home the car wouldn't start again. Tried and tried and tried until the battery was completely flat.

The AA man's report tells me that somethign's drawing 0.5 amp from the battery and that most likely was enough of a drain toprevent the battery starting but as nothing was plugged into any lighter socket and by thein time the heater and radio had been switched off he couldn't determine what it might be.

Rather bizzarely, my dad (2005 Laguna II 1.9dCi) had exactly the same problem, seems to have cured itself lately though over christmas. Even after he replaced the battery it was still happening. As he lives at the opposite end of the country it's not an local environment thing.

Does anyone have an idea what might be the cause?

Thanks in advance.

Could be an intermittent fault in the alternator - one of the most common causes of battery drain. It may also be worth checking all lights are going out when you park the car. Check the boot and glove box just to be sure.
It may also be prudent to have the glow-plugs tested.

Could be you TDC sensor, sounds like the same problems I had and a clean of the sensor head cleared the problem.

As DeeBees said, it is most probably the TDC Sensor, read this thread...................
