Excavator - might be slightly off the subject - but I was inspired by various threads you have written concerning the sat nav gps connection that I decided to have a go at sorting it out on the Espace.

On the espace the shark fin ariel is set quite a way in from the rear and is difficult to get to so decided to route a new one to the front. Happen to have a panoramic sunroof so I figured this may help.

Bought a GPS ariel from ebay (passion auto) 10 and 1 delivery. 2 on universal clips for removing the the CD drive (well worth the investement).

When I first connected the new ariel - at first nothing (thought oh well it was not the areil) - but after that all fired up green sat. Tried the areil in different positions - windscreen, near rear view mirror, quarter light - dashboard roof. Best practical reception was under the sunroof right at the front - under the black part of the sunroof rather than the clear part (must have some coating on it). Got about 5 - 6 sats.

Due to shape of espace - quarter light would be an option - windscreen because it is coated not so good - and patch near rear view mirror was not so good. Saying that I was getting 4 to 5 sats even if I buried the ariel in the dashboard behind the CD unit.

Then routed the cable - under the roof trim (about half way along passenger door aperture) - easily removed rubber seal from A post and threaded under near bonnet release catch under trim to rear of CD player. It was a magnetic areil, but stuck it to the headliner (just above where the sunroof control would be) and fastened cable in position with insulation tape (may need to use something better as time goes on)

Anyway generally get 5 to 6 sats now and also will go up to 7 to 8 - not a big difference with sunroof open or closed.

Really chuffed to get this sorted for 13. Most threads I have seen have been Lagunas but I guess the basic systen should be the same.

Sorry to waffle on - but I have been playing a number of scenarios through my head before actually tackling the job.

Hopefully this may be of help to other people and may help othe Espace owners.
