I have come across red earth leads before on some vehicles.
Not sure the colour coding that most seem to use is universal!
Also, earth leads and connections are known weak points on Renaults,so it could have been replaced and the only colour wire that was available to who ever replaced it was red!!.
ALWAYS check the battery polarity and earthing points before assuming which is positive and which is negative.Serious damage to both the car electrics and the persons in the vicinity, can be caused by connecting a battery the wrong way round.Batteries have been known to explode in such circumstances, and that is not a pleasant experience.......

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

It's not just Renault. I remember someone I knew frying the electrics on a Vauxhall that he was trying to jump start because the car had a red earth wire and so he got the jump leads back to front.

I donít know if this is true or not, but I heard some years ago that you could reverse the polarity of a car battery by connecting the leads up backwards on an absolutely dead flat battery, and jump starting it, not something I would recommend trying though. Sounds

edited by hondo, not enough info but still, don't try it
