Unable to open Laguna II with Keycard

I can't unlock any doors on my Laguna II (51 Reg) Initiale with any of the keycards. The Renault dealer checked a keycard and said that there is not a problem with the battery of the card.... he said it could be a problem with synchronisation between keycard and the lock.

Anyone got any ideas? The alternative is going to be taking the car to the garage (somehow).

Thanks

richard does the card start the car ok , if it does its likely to just be a fuse issue on the central locking ,check the fuses cos the chance of 2 cards going down at the same time would be rare

I hope you don't mind me linking to another thread via here. It is an old one I made sometime ago. It is reference the IR remote fob.

http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=51942

I finally found out that one of the connections had come loose, the RAC mechanic soldered it and it has worked no problems since. (I had to call him as I couldn't get into my car at all, ha.)

Hope it helps others.

Key Cards Not unlocking doors

Dont wanna sound patronising - This could help you though.

At the bottom of the key card, (see pic) there is a key for your passenger door. Pull the key from the card some can be tight - Look on the bottom of the passenger door handle (see pic) - there is a small square hole, pop the plastic cover off and there is a key hole - This will open the door.

The card should still start the car - if it doesn't the cards are prolly gone, but as mentioned before it is rare for both to go at the same time, the car has prolly just 'forgot' the code thats all.

If it starts take it to dealer - they can re-program card easily.

Spare key for my new motor

Hi There
i just bought a Laguna Mark 1 2000(w) plate which unfortunately only came with the one key, Timpsons said they couldn't do it but is there anywhere other than the "stealers" that can do one for me?
It's the shape of a normal key with the fob doing the central locking and i believe there's something in it for the immobiliser as it only goes off when key's in the ignition. also how much are we looking at for it?

thanks

Paul

Megane I key / immobiliser problems

Hi Badkeys, I hope you can help me with this.

I've recently bought a 1996 P Megane RXE. In order to lock or unlock the doors I have to hold the key really close to the car. I've changed the batteries but it's no better. A Renault garage suggested that you do have to hold the keyfobs close with the IR types rather than the RF ones. Does that sound right? Is there any way to improve it?

Also, the immobiliser often doesn't disarm once the doors are unlocked. I have to lock and unlock the doors again before it'll disarm. It's a bit of an annoyance but I'm worried that it might get worse. Any suggestions.

Unfortunately I only got one key with the car. Are you able to supply an additional key or suggest who might?

Many thanks
Steve

Hi S & L,

If its like my wife,s megane 97 you will need to point it at the sensor. Ours in built into the interior light switch panel and as long as you are in line of sight you should be able to operate it ok. Even from the back of the car

The range is limited though and as youv'e found out a new battery makes little or no difference.

A good aim is the trick:d

Lost key for Megane CC

I hope someone can help me.

I have an '05 Megane CC, which i bought nearly new from a renault Dealer. Unusually (in my experience anyway), they only gave me one keycard, saying the other was "lost."

Anyway, as life often goes, I have managed to lose the key, rendering my poor old CC immobile.

I have read posts on here about buying a new key, but nothing specific to my model and year.

So, my questions are these :

1.) Usual cost of a new key from renault?

2.) Does my CC have to be at the dealer's to sync with the key? Or will dealers come out to do this?

3.) Assuming the AA are willing to give me a tow, do they need special equipment?

thanks for any help.

Clio key fob

Hi,
Can anyone help please?
Have had sporadic problems with starting my Clio for several months. Thought it was immobiliser and have had that checked out and was advised to go to Renault and pay a fortune or for £200 could have immobiliser disconnected. Decided to wait and see and its worked on and off.
Last few days have been problematic again and had a thought - maybe was the key. Got key tested and infra red beam is sporadic! Auto locksmith nearby said he can't do Renaults. Can't afford hundreds for new keys
Does anyone know of Auto locksmith in area who could help. I live just outside Falmouth, Cornwall and have tried the nice man in Penryn.
thanks

Backup key for 97 Meg Scenic

I'm new to Renaults and to the forum; I've joined to ask Badkeys for his advice, if he'd be so kind.

I have just bought a cheap 97 R plate Megane Scenic 1.6e. It is showing 115k, done that at least, but drives OK and will be carting stuff on a one way trip in Europe later this Spring. Once we are safely there the old girl will be gently recycled.

I bought the car with just the one key. Immob and central locking work fine, no apparent problems once I'd noticed the IR receiver was up by the mirror :d

Because I'm going to be in foreign lands I would ideally like a plan B if the only key is lost or stops working. First thing I did was call Perrys in Aylesbury, my local dealer, who want £200 - £95 for the key and an hour for handling the transponder coding. I'm really hoping there is an alternative for less money available.

Some additional info:

  • I don't need central locking or anti-theft immobilising where I am going, basic door lock is enough
  • The key I do have is in perfect working order
  • The Meg still has its original Renault/Philips rad casette

Do I have any options BK?

Thanks in advance

OM

yes you have options , the immo can be bypassed in the fuse box with a dongle my charge £140 , this would enable the vehicle to run on a plain metal key , downside is no remote locking any more , plain but reliable , option 2 i programme a second hand key to your vehicle approx £90-100, this would then leave you with 2 working remotes , this is the way i would go . before anyone starts saying a second hand remote cannot be used , normaly this would be correct ,however we have software to enable us to alter a s/h key to your vehicle , this is very specialised and you will not find many auto lockies with this facility call me on 07793373794 for more info

Can Badkeys help please?
Is it possible to permanently disable immobiliser cheaply or do immobiliser code keys work?
I don't know if my problem is key or the bit you point the key at ( sorry - no good at cars and until recently had husband who did these things for me). I need to find an inexpensive cure to avoid walking home like I did tonight.
Very grateful for any help please.
Thanks

i see you have a 98 clio , is this the car you are talking about , if i t is there is a chance of getting a good reading from your key and putting that on to a solid chip , which would never let you down call me and i will talk you through it , would cost £30

98 Clio

Thanks Badkeys.
Have been waiting for my sister (from whom I bought the car) to send spare key in case that worked. It arrived today - a normal key with no remote. My concern with the car is - is it the key or the receiver? Is there a way to tell?
thanks

Hi Badkeys
Need to ring you now to see how to put this hard chip in my key. ********************************************************** Flashing light stopped but car still wouldn't start.
If I ring for you to talk me through what has to be done, do i need to be with the car or can I do it at home. Car stranded in work, so would have to be Monday if that's the case.
THanks everso for this help

there is nothing you can do yourself , you need to get your key to a locksmith that can clone keys , there is a chance he can get a reading off your key , that will solve your problem , but ,call me if you need more info
ps, you cannot bypass the immo on these without specialised equipment HTH
