Question Clio Mk1 (98) intermittent ignition problem

My Clio Mk1 98 developed an ignition problem, where the engine wouldn't turn over. The dashboard lights came on, but nothing happened. No starter motor. Silence.

This igition fault only happened sometimes. Sometimes the car would start, sometimes not. When it didn't, the only answer was to keep trying until magically the starter motor turned over.

After reading forums, I learned the problem was the immobiliser. (Made sense.) So I sent the immobiliser off to specialist company to deactivate it ( for 107). Got it back yesterday and no more hassles. Car started every time.

Or so I thought.

Tonight a friend jumped into the passenger seat. When I turned the key in the ignition, the same problem occurred. Dashboard lights on (indicating power) but no engine. I depressed the accelerator and tried the ignition again, and the car roared into life. Lucky, but not reliable.

I believe the problem is related to the passenger door, because this was a common factor in previous occurrences. The lock is dodgy on the passenger door.

I thought deactivating the immobiliser would have solved this problem. But obviously not.

Anyone any ideas on what to do next?

P.S. Great forum, by the way.

Sounds like something loose to me.

I would check earth wires, especially the wires to the starter and make sure they're sound.
