Unhappy help im in despair!!!!!!!

hi all,
im hoping someone can help me......... i have a renault megane 1.6 convertable s reg, there are a few problems with it which is really getting on my t--s!
the warning light keeps coming on and the speedo drops as well as the revs getting stuck, if im at traffic lights the car gets stuck at about 2500 revs and after a while judders, ive taken the car to a garage and had 3 diagnostic checks all fine and had the map sensor changed yet ive still got the problem, i dont live near a renault dealer (south wales valleys) and im tired of getting ripped off by my local garage! does anyone have the knowledge to what the problem is? i would be so grateful as its doing my head in..........

Could be one of many things! I'd start with the cheapest first which would be the temperature sender. This reads the resistance of the coolant and sends information to the cars ECU to help it decide how much fuel/air mix is needed. If the sensor is duff, the car could think it needs the wrong mixture c reating an over fuelling issue....hence the high revs!

Worth a shot and the part should cost you less than a score

Report back here with the results. If it ain't that maybe we could point you in another direction.

Welcome to the forums by the way

Hi Swalk,

Which Valley are you in? SR Baber in Penygriag are about the closest without going into Cardiff.

I've never used them but a few people I know have and said they've had good service from them. I did do a quote for a key card and Cardiff Renault were slightly cheaper due to the labour rates being a bit cheaper, but then you have to weigh up fuel costs to travel between the 2. I'm about half way between both so more beneficial for me to go to Cardiff.

What warning light are you getting on when the problems start?

As Scatz said could be a number of things. My monster-in-law had a correded wire to the ECU on her 1.6 megane causing her revs to drop. SR sorted it out for about 60 IIRC

Shuddering could be over fueling as Scatz said. Could also be a duff coil pack and the ECU trying to rev the engine to stop it cutting out.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you take the wall with you.
