New Megane Hatch (III) - "Arkamys" audio system?

So has anyone actually heard one of these things in use? I'm planning on getting a new Megane Hatch, and am not sure whether to pay the extra for this as a factory-fitted audio option (it includes the USB/ipod connector interface too) or just pay for an after-market fitting of a better head-unit & system - always assuming that one can interface with the new dash-mounted display and Renault control stalk, of course.

The (very limited!) info says it has 8 speakers, but I'm not sure what this means? The standard setup says 4 speakers, but the front is already a twin tweeter/woofer arrangement either side. Does the Arkamys version include a sub, for example? Extra rear speakers? Better specced front speakers?

Any help much appreciated!

I can't comment on this system.
However, Renault used to fit upgraded "Cabasse Auditorium" audi units and speakers and the difference was noticeable over the standard fit units.

Have you listened to the standard fit unit?? See what that sounds like first before you make a decision.
The weakest link in most set ups will be the std fit speakers - upgrade them with aftermarket ones for not much money and you usually get a vast improvement.

Also - how much is the upgrade audio option?
You can haggle hard when buying new these days and you should be able to get loads of goodies thrown in or get a hefty discount.

It will probably be several months at least before you can buy the adaptors etc to enable you to maintain steering wheel control and display if you fit an aftermarket unit.

I'd go the aftermarket route personally, the Cabasse auditorium system in the VS is absolutely pants.

Thanks for the info. The upgrade from standard unit to Arkamys on the Expression and Dynamique is 300 (still a 4x15W system) and for the Privilege is 600 (4x30W system only; they refuse to fit the 4x15W Arkamys version!). Both of these options include the USB/iPod TunePoint interface (which costs 200 to have fitted on its own).

I do very much like the design and ease of use of the fitted head unit though (which appears to be retained with both options) I have a Pioneer Bluetooth unit in my current car, which sounds nice but the user-interace is absolutely awful.
