Unhappy Hello Guys & Girls, Advice Needed

Hi to all, as a new user to this way of communicating so please bear with me as my info may be sketchy.
I am 25 years of age and live in the south of ireland, last august i bought a 2001 silver Laguna 1598cc for 12,000. Now the unfortinunate bit was that i didn`t buy from a renault main dealer but a citreon main dealer, lets say i fell in love with it when i saw it. My family always have had a renault and so i`ve desided to keep up the tradition. Last week i placed the car in for a routine service and to check a fault with the interior lights. My service set me back 600 and to be informed that the internal light fault is a certain chip that needs to be replaced which will cost me 2000.
Now the fault is, while the engine is running and any door is opened and then closed the lights will remain on until the car is turned off end resterted. Up to this point I was Joe Bloggs to the main dealer and upon haering thiss i informed them that i worked in the electronics industry and there is no hope any component or chip would cost that much to which they responded that the technicians in the dealership weren`t trained to replace components like thet but what they do instead is to re-install all the electrical components with whatever PCB boards is involved. In short I`m wondering if any one has encountered any problem like this and is there any one trained to sort these faults. Best Digitals

someone had the same problem recently and it's either in this forum or in Parker's Forum. This sounds like your dealer is extracting the urine my friend. For that kind of money you light as well for another car.

Look at the thread started by THIEKBLACK on 18th October 2005 (I think it is under LAGUNA II - Phase 1- Interior Lights not dimming.). There are many similarities and whatever you do, don't accept the opinion of one extravagant (with your money) dealer. You will find that on the first page of that thread, LAGUNA II OWNER was given three different diagnosis by three different dealers.

Are these the only dealers in your area? They certainly sound like they think they have you over a barrel!!!

OOPS!!! I was writing and searching while you guys were posting. Sorry.
