Renault Megane 1.6 16V 2001 Model- Wipers don't work?

Hi all, I hope someone can help me out on here because I'm quite clueless when it comes to cars so I usually end up paying extortionate amounts of money to get the car fixed, well, not this time!
I'm going to try and fix this one myself.

As the thread title suggests, the wipers on my 2001 Renault MeganeI have stopped working, I was just driving along and they just stopped working,.
I'v checked the fuse (just the one that coresponds to the wipers) and it seems to be fine, does anyone have any ideas as to what the fault could be?

Bizzarly, I switched the heating on earlier and the wipers started working briefly but then they stopped again, this only happened once though and I can't get it to do the same thing again.
Any help would be appreciated!

hi matt,
the biggest issue with these wiper motors is an internal fault, to check that this is the case,if you get a length of wiring bare both ends, and put the ignition on and switch wipers on, then touch 1 end on the body of the wiper motor and the other on a suitable earth point the wipers should start working (remember to watch your fingers) if wipers start working you can then just put that wire by putting it around 1 of the mountings boltsand the other to suitable earth

i think this is quite a common problem Aim4, it will more than likely be the earth connection to the body that is at fault. im sure the blower motor and the wipers share the same earth.

im not too sure where the earth connection is but if you could find it and clean it up, it should work again.
