RAC couldn't help There is no emergency fuel flap lever in the 06 new shape Clio. According to Renault, the whole inside panelling has to be removed completely to "pop" the flap open from inside. Really useful for a woman on their own stuck at a petrol station with hardly any fuel to get home!!! And they are charging £40 to have a look at it, then god knows how much if it needs new parts. Surely this should never happen?

This problem is more common than people think and not just on Renaults
I have came accross Vauxhalls and VW with similar problems - sad to say. Any decent mechanic should be able to gain access quite easily and trip the solenoid bar back. It may not require new components but maybe just a clean and lubrication. I would recommend trying a decent independent garage as Renault dealers tend to always opt for replacement over a repair.

I alway smake a point of giving all the locks on my car a shot of spray grease at least once a year to minimise such risks.

P.S. The problem would just be as difficult for a male to overcome in the same situation - yet my wife was able to coax the locking bar back using a credit card in similar circumstances - Ah!! the power of the credit card and the ingenuity pf the female brain

The garage have disconnected it for now just so I can get some petrol. As it has only just come out of warranty, and i've never had to claim anything before, i may see what Renault customer services can do if i ask nicely. Garage says its worth a try. Thanks for the replies
