Hi, im not sure if your car will be the same, but my laguna 1 had the same problem with the temp gauge. I can tell you that mine had two sensors (senders), one was white and the other one was green, it is highly likely that this is your problem, my green one was located at the thermostat housing and the white one was slightly more to the back, make sure your engine is cold when you change them because you will loose some coolant, its an easy job, hope this helps!!

If you have the "new" type cluster with a square field in the middle where all warning lamps are displayed you can run a self diagnostics on it.

Without trip computer:

Enter diagnostics mode by pressing the small button on the instrument cluster while turning on the ignition.

If you have trip computer:

Enter diagnostics mode by pressing the trip computer button while turning on ignition

- the gauges should now start to move simoultaneously in a self test behavour - it is then easy to see if one of them does not behave like the rest, if so you have a fault on the instrument panel.

If you have trip computer,
When this self test is active, by pressing the trip comp. button you browse on the trip computer window until you reach " t J d h " or some or all is replaced with dashes, example " t - - - " means stored "t" fault meaning a fault on the coolant temperature sensor circuit.

t = faulty coolant temp sensor circuit (open circuit)
J = fuel gauge line fault for more than 100 seconds
d = fuel flow line fault for more than 16km
h = fault on oil level gauge line

Reset faults by pressing the small button on the instrument panel.

Turn off ignition to exit diagnostics mode.
