OK,there are other things that can be checked,but I can't advise you to have a look yourself,as it involves the removal of the airbag,and this is potentially hazardous.
I think now,I'd advise you to get the fault codes read,as this could help prevent a lot of guess work and will ultimately tell you where the problem is.Some of the later Renaults can only be diagnosed by main dealers,but you might be lucky with yours....Try a local specialist and see how it goes...
