Espace Fuel sensor

R reg 2.2dci

Noticed the fuel Gauge is very unreliable!! when I fill it up the top 2 bars are never lit up! also when were comming towards the time to fill up again sometimes it will be on one bar then sometimes it changes it's mind and goes upto 4 bars!!! so we never trust it is there a sensor or something that is easily replaced????

Hi and welcome to the forums

If you have a 97-98 R reg its a dt not dci

The fuel gauge on mine sounds just like yours

When I bought it the guy said he had never seen the fuel gauge show full. I have managed to get it to show full but means you have to fill it to the top of the neck put the cap back on shake the car then remove cap and tank will swallow, keep doing this until the tank will not swallow anymore then it should show full. Saying that though I have filled it to the brim and the gauge still doesnt read properly for hours afterwards.

the tank is a very strange shape with plenty of room for airlocks

I too do not trust the gauge and when it shows 3 bars I get more fuel in.

I removed the tank once (view previous posts of mine) when the gauge showed 2 bars and still drained 30 litres out of it Its meant to be a 70 litre tank

Unless you are prepared to drop the tank and put a brand new sender in it(this may not even cure the problem) I think you will have to live with the Espace's little quirks

I wear the trousers in our house

She just tells me what colour :D
