Sorry, when you push the button I am assuming the locking mechanism doesn't move!
Right, if the solenoid on the back of the button is knackered then you won't be able to press the button and, henceforth, the mechanism will not work.
I finding it difficult to see how a locking mechanism can fail. It's just a couple of lumps of metal hinged together (in basic terms). When you press the button a solenoid will mechanically pull or push a metal rod which will inturn open or close the mechanism.
Are you with me? If anything is going to have failed, assuming the rod is still connected or not broken, is the solenoid or button itself!
When you use your central locking function are you getting any whirring noises from the lock area?
