central locking comes on when setting off

i've just got a 2001 clio expression + 16v, when i set off the central locking activates after a few seconds, is this supposed to happen - can it be de-activated if it is a feature

Yes this is supposed to happen, its a feature called RAID. It can be disabled by pressing and holding the left side of the interrnal central locking button for 5 seconds I think until you hear a beep.

Currently in dave_mezza2006's garage:
2014 Vauxhall Astra Limited Edition 1.4 16v VVT Turbo

Looks like the RAID safety system is activated whereby the doors automatically lock once the car goes over around 5 mph. It reduces the risk of someone trying to mug you at traffic lights, etc. - yet still allowing you to exit the car from the inside.
Holding down the central locking switch inside the car until you hear a beep either activates or de-activates the system.

Apparently it's the RAID system and is deactivated by pressing and holding the central locking button.

Let us know how you get on.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
