Just to recap, renault garage have just telphoned to say that the steering lock came up as a fault on the diagnostic and so was replaced.this meaning the card key was ok as a 2 second check on a machine proved the key was ok,when the mechanic returned to the car he dropped my key and apparently it would not start the car.they are now saying it was the garages fault and so would not be charging for a new key.Convenient????????.
Renault uk has yet to contact me and i am awaiting the dealers service managers phone call to come to a resolution.
Iwill keep you posted.
PS Any comments welcome

andy i cant add much because ive not had one with a faulty electronic steering lock, had a few with faulty card readers though ,these are common and can be tested just by swapping 1 from another vehicle,
sorry i cant give more info for you , but it looks like your dealer is at least backing down from some of their silly prices
