I hope this is not a sign of things to come!!!

When i told a friend of mine i was buying a new Renault Laguna II SportTourer i was greeted with a huge intake of breath and warned "Don't go near Renaults - they have terrible electrical problems". Ignoring this advice I purchased it anyway and i must say have been very happy for 6 months.

About three weeks ago my ESP warning light came on. I phoned my local dealer and they couldn't see me for a week. I continued driving it cautiously until it went in for repair. After a day of analysis they came back and said the ABS computer needed replacing - and told me that since they had removed it the auto handbrake will not release - i told them that this was a new issue. Anyway, they said the would take around 5 days to arrive and Renault UK hired me a replacement (Subaru Forrester). When the 5 days was up, I received a call from the dealer who explained that the wrong part had been sent and they have re-ordered. The car wouldn't be ready until the next day. The next day, I phoned and was told the the part was on backorder and would take between 7 - 10 days.
With this news Renault UK said that they wouldn't pay out for the Forrester anymore. The garage only had a Kangoo available - which is probably the ugliest car on the planet. Fortunately, due to the part not being available, the parts department paid for a hire car - renault Clio - which, at least, is much cooler than the Kangoo.
Today, three weeks since the original problem I was told that the part arrived, was fitted and it sorted the ESP problem. BUT they explained that they could not sort out the handbrake issue and did not know what the problem was!! They said they will have another look tomorrow.

So, in 6 months of ownership I will have been without my car for the best part of a month, and leaving me very worried about the future reliabilty of my car and competency of Renault Customer Services . I also worry that due to my handbrake failure, I may have undue wear and tear on my brakes.

Needless to say, my smug friend is walking around with that "I told you so" face.

What a nightmare!

It is never good when a Main Dealer admits that they're not sure what the problem is....

Hope your luck changes soon

Is it me or is it a fact that when you take a car in to Renault, you can expect it to come out with a new fault that didn't exist when the car went in?

ABout your friend's I-Told-You_so look.... I think you have to admit that wise eskimos never eat yellow snow... right?

Let's hope things will get better for you. At least it's all under warranty.

My last car:
Went in for new clutch, came out with oil leak and screenwash dripping from the bumper (again)
Went in for ECU related problem, came back with fuel spraying all over the engine compartment.

Hmm, I think you're onto something here.

In Renault's defence, I've had much worse service from Ford and Vauxhall, and have only ever had better from Mazda. Most of the time, they get it right. It's just easier to remember the times when they got it wrong.
