Wilky, the TDC sensor may be at fault, but if the engine will not even turn, it's not that. It simply 'tells' the car that the cylinders are in the right place for firing and starting.

Is anything else wrong with the car, any lights not working, horn, heaters. If so this could be a faulty relay or bad earth.

Hi Ourcar,

Thanks for the info about TDC , saves me taking the air filter out to get to it!! There is nothing else wrong with the car, like I say it's not even turning over, had a new starter fitted an it ran fine for a day, then computer come on saying problem with immoboliser, but surely it would fire up for a second or two then die??
Taking it to an ex Renault mechanic tomorrow who's setup his own business so hoping he can fix it!!
Will let u know what he says

It has to be some sort of wiring issue. On the lag if the immo is not disengaging it will still crank the engine, just no start(no spark). At least that's how it is on my 99 lag. Easy to identify an immobiliser fault as if it doesn't disengage the immo light will flash rapidly. If it -is- an immo fault, try the areal around the ingition key. A fairly common failure point with it's connectors.

Theoretically it could also be a connection problem with the ECU whereas it wouldn't recieve the immo signal, hence why you can bump-start it. But that still wouldn'T explain why it doesn't crank properly.

Oh and it wouldn't engage if the immo didn't disengage. It cranks but will not start for even a second. (tried with a blipless key)
