03 Grand Espace Privelege with factory fit rear parking sensors that work inconsistently!
Hit and miss really; sometimes they work as expected with an intermittent bleep - at other times I can put the car into reverse with no obstacles either flanking or behind and the sensors let out a solid wail as if i'm about to collide with something. Very annoying especially considering the cars size, the fact that the panels are all fibreglass (can't knock out dents) and the fact that the missus drives the car 90% of the time!
Took the car back to the independant I bought it from and suprise suprise the sensors worked perfectly!!!! To be fair they removed the rear bumper anyway (a task in its own right) and checked all the sensors - they all work independently, although 2 where seemingly more erratic than the others; however the upshot was that they could not confirm the specific problem.
They rang Renault who said there is no 'stored' diagnostic fault code and that the fault would need to occur at the dealership to enable a proper analysis. I spoke to another indy specialist who confirmed this as well as mentioning 3 separate control units for this system; one of which is located in the rear pillar? Short of changing the lot (£350 for the sensors alone
) any other advice? Could it be as simple as a loose connection / water egress etc etc?
To be fair to the dealer they want to sort this however they are not Renault speciaists and I don't want to be minus a car for several days to find the fault occurs again days later -
Your advice would be most appreciated -
