Megane 1 (1999) - Door sensor button

Hi Folks,

First time poster here, so bear with me! I have a 1999 Megane RT 16v 5-door hatchback. I was getting out of the car and the seatbelt didn't retract properly. When I closed the door, the belt buckle got caught and broke the door sensor button. This is the small plastic push-button on the door frame which tells the car if the door is closed or not.

The thing is, the button itself is still working. However, the outer edges of the piece (which grips to the metal of the frame) has broken and the entire piece is pushed back into the door frame. So now the door never presses the button, and the car thinks the door is always open.

My choices are to get the dealer to look at it (no chance) or fix it myself. I was wondering if anyone had an idea how much the button would cost - or maybe could I get it from a scrap yard or ebay ?. Also, if someone could show/tell me how to take off the interior plastic trim that covers the drivers seat belt - i'll need to remove this to get at the button. I had a quick look at it, and it looks like it will never come off!!

Any help much appreciated!

Problem solved! To get at the button, I just removed the seal around the door frame (it pulls off easily by hand). The trim covering the seatbelt can be bent back slightly and allows easy access to the back of the sensor button.

Went into renault garage and asked for price of a sensor button. They told me 15 euro! I know this is rediculously expensive, but I paid it anyway, as it will save me travelling to scrap yards or ordering online, and I'm a bit stuck for time at the minute. Could probably get it for a fiver somewhere, so I really paid the extra tenner for the time and convenience! (renault garage across the road from where I work)

Anyway... another problem on my little megane fixed by myself. I won't be so rough with her from now on!
