europe sat nav discs

I've got the carminat system in the laguna with navteq uk map running with no probs. I've brought a navteq france disc (orginal) but when you put it inot the drive in the car it says insert correct navigation disc. Is this because the car is still in the UK and GPS co ords won't be on the france map? I've emailed navteq and had a reply saying ask your main dealer s they don't make the actual GPS system (carminat). Looked on VDO site (who i think make the carminat) and they state that navteq maps work on VDo systems. Anyone out there got europe discs that won't show when in the UK? Don't want to get to France to find out the Sat nav is u/s.

Hi I have a recently aquired France disk, not sure of the brand. After reading your post I have just been out and tried it. The system accepted it and allowed me to input a French address, it then sat with a blank screen and the tmc in black (I assume it may have needed more time to work out where the car was (Essex) outside of France) .
