Got my recall work done today at Renault Cardiff- I have had the famous "Check parking Brake" message displayed for two years and two MOT passes following a flat battery and was half expecting the dealer to ring and ask for a million pound for a new unit but no- the software upgrade was done which wiped out the error message and the verdict from the safety check was only that my rear tyres were down to 3mm so keep an eye on them!

So well pleased! I wonder if the parking brake error will return one day when the battery is flat or disconnected - this proves that the message is meaningless:d

Had mine done, today. I joined the forum, before I got my Scenic. So only heard about the recall, then.
I had only had it 5 days, and it was working flawlessly. But I thought I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Booked yesterday. Went in. today, at 10.30am. Was told it would be ready at 3.00pm. Which it was.
I also got a 'Visual Health Check' Which declared that it needed Coolant @ £50.00, a new cambelt @£746.69, and new brake pads, all round, also @ 50.00
a total of £846.69. Which was a bit of a shock.
But when pressed. I was advised. "Oh no. We haven't checked, But it 'might possibly' need this extra work."

Gotta love Scenics!

We have a 54 Scenic and we have the resetting clock and mpg etc. issue (for the past week or so) and have our emergency safety recall booked in for this Monday... and we've also had the check parking brake message for a year or so!

I will be calling Renault tomorrow to enquire about a dash replacement... and so hopefully it will all get sorted.

So yeah, a couple of coils, window plastic clips, now the dash and recall... next on the list is the handbrake that will engage manually but not disengage, the intermittent rattle when I start the car when cold (not a diesel, 1.6 16V) and the air-con that no longer gets cold (assuming a regas).

The joys of owning a renault!

Had no problems with my Scenic Handbrake.
Got a letter in to say it needs re-programmed, so took it to local Renault dealer on Monday. got it back later that day.
Now the Parking Brake is playing up something seriously!
This is not long after getting my Dashboard replaced.

Renault ... NEVER again !!!

just read this after posting a new thread. I too only discovered the recall via dealer 2 weeks ago. I left my car @ Renault dealer all day & had this software upgrade/update performed. Handbrake worked anyway, but it did get rid of the annoying service/handbrake errors on the dash.

Must be serious s*** if renault are writing to so many clients.

Got my recall notice on Wednesday and it's booked in or Tuesday 31st August.
Taking advantage of their £99 service as the Service light has just popped on.
Car has done 130k miles and never had a problem so far with the handbrake!

Since getting the car 4.5 yrs ago the only problems I've had was the EGR valve needed changing at 90k miles (it kept sticking and causing sluggish acceleration), both back windows dropped so replaced the plastic connector myself usin the guide off here, and a turbo hose connector came off and sent the computer in a spin giving all kinds of errors messages!

Apart from those minor problems, the car has been brilliant.

Got the letter this morning, I am leaving for Orkney tomorrow at 4am so it'll have to wait 'till I get back, Had Arnold Clark Stirling recently carry out my Dephaser pulley and found them a little slow, as I'm in the middle of 2 dealers I may try the other one (Dunfermline) and see how I et on with them.

Hi Everyone

We had our hand brake updated recently, but it was working fine before. It was fine for about 2 months but now theres a warning on the dashboard about a handbrake fault. It still functions fine but the message will not go away and it make a buzzing noise everytime you start the car. I had my local mechanic re-check the rear brakes after having new pads and discs fitted a few weeks ago but they were fine. He plugged in the EOBD and it came up with 4 codes for the handbrake. 3 were soft codes and have been cleared but code 182 is a hard code and cannot be removed. the code reads "Redundant Brake On Switch Internal Electronic Error - Current".

Anyone had this before? Anyone know what it actually means? I really dont want to take it back to (robbing bast@rds) Renault if I can help it, as they might re-program the computer to tell me something else is wrong in 6 months time!!

Had my hand brake reprogrammed following the recall recently. At first it was fine, but I now get "Check parking brake" or "Parking Brake Fault -Stop" on dashboard display. It may be coincidence but I'm sure I'm not alone with this, I believe other people have had the same problem. Brakes and handbrake function fine- just passed MOT with flying colours. Dealer says problem does not relate to reprogramming but I've asked around and some people say it might need reprogramming again and others say I need a new module (£500 plus fitting). Any suggestions welcome. Have you had a similar fault? Diagnostic machine at non-Renault garage reads " Redundant brake on switch internal electronic error - current" Nobody seems to know what this means when translated into English.

Hi, I dont want to start a scare but i'd be interested to see if anyone else has had this experience or can help me. I have a Megane Grande Scenic (2005) that recenlty had the manufaturer 're-call' relating to the electonic handbrake. Work was carried out fine and no attempt to 'sell' us anything else at the sime time. However, since the recall work was carried out the instrument panel (dashboard) keeps re-setting - maybe once or twice a week. Originally it wasn't everyting just the time clock and the trip meeter both re-set to zero. However today whilst driving along we got a 'beep' and the whole panel has blacked out. Everyting else works fine (car starts, radio works, lights work, Aircon, etc. some of whic i think are on the same fuse). The other thing that now doesn't work are the radio controls on the steering column although the radio can be operated through the controls on the radio. All other controls on the column work fine as well. This problems had never occured before the re-call and started soon after.

I don't know if the two events are related but has anyone had the same experience ? Does anyone have any idea how to fix the problem ? Thanks in advance, Dave

Thanks Asterix, just called them and was told it was checked on 29th July 2010. Nothing mentioned in the paperwork I got with th car though.

The chap at RCS said that the recall was all completed in June this year, so no more notifications being sent out. New owners of preowned cars will have no idea if the check has been done unless they call like I did and I only called because I read about the recall on this forum, which is a bit worrying as some cars will have slipped through the net.

Hi,

Does anyone know what will happen if the automatic parking brake is engaged while driving?

I am curious to find out because I think it happened to me on the 21st of October 2010, and was wondering if the experience was related to the recall?

(I only got my letter yesterday, although it was dated the 6th of December.)

The result experienced from my side was that the main fuse blew on the battery and the clutch broke as the car halted immediately on the freeway, resulting in a new clutch plate and clutch release bearing.

Any help would greatly be apprecited.

Sounds like your handbrake applied itself and you were lucky.
There was another case on here involving a fuse or bad connection on the battery making this happen. Same thing happened, very dangerous.

When there is no power to the car, the handbrake will activate and it should also make the steering lock come on. Really bad design.

do you mean that you still have the engine running when you do this, if so the bleeping is probably to let you know a door is open!!!!!

#59 ·
Sorry but I am confused now, when you turn off the engine surely the electronic parking brake engages automatically.
