In-Car DVD, CD Player!

Alright All!
Right here go's! I've got a car stereo here, it play's CD's & DVD's. There's a seperate TFT Monitor for displaying the DVD's. Each unit is the size of a regular dash-mounted player, so double the dash space is required! The problem I have is with the head unit (Player.) only! A Relative of mine purchased it and installed it in a 'mitsubishi warrior' and it was fully functional. Then he changed his vehicle and tried to fit it in to his new car, and wired it up incorrectly! The head unit shut down and wouldn't work! I cleaned the internal's and got it to power up again! The screen lights up and works normally, it accepts a CD/DVD, the display show's its playing the disc & it will eject disc's! All as it should! BUT, there is a component at the rear, left hand corner of the unit that has heat dispersing type fin's on it, during the period of 2 mins I had the unit on this part got so hot it burnt my hand! I immediately disconnected the power & let it cool, later I tried it for about 15 sec's to make sure it was still working as before & it hadn't died again - it 's still working! I am wondering if this part is the units 'internal amp' as during the period it was functioning the only thing I couldn't get was sound! Do these units usually get so hot, so quickly anyway? Would seem dangerous as it would be buried in a dashboard! If defective - is it repairable! This is a gorgeous looking & working piece of kit. So, I'd love to fix it to use myself!
Any Idea's or assistance you can give me would be much appreciated!

Not sure if there the same but I have got an Eonon double din DVD/TV/CD/Fm tuner in the Laguna. On the back to one side are the heatsinks/ cooling fins. These do indeed get very hot and is perfectly normal. These are designed to take away the heat from the stereo system and should not cause damage to the dash unless you trap some wires against it!!!
