Hi all, I have recently purchased a tomtom satnav unit to use in my Lag 1 but have read in the Laguna owners manual that the car has a reflective windscreen, will this affect the gps reception to the tomtom and should I buy an external antenna for it?
It depends on which model of TomTom you've bought.
If you've bought the Classic GO (second-hand), the 300, 500 or 700, then you'll need to either buy an external antenna, or position the unit right next to the rear view mirror so that it can 'see' the sky through the dotted area. My 700 works quite well there, but it does mean that you can't use your sun visor.
If you got the TT One, 510, 710 or 910, then the coated windscreen shouldn't be a problem.
Whatever you do, don't buy the permanent docking kit. It's an absolute heap of junk and I don't know how TT have the nerve to sell it. If you do insist on buying the docking kit, then I did an article on the trials and tribulations of installing it in my Phase 2. The Phase 1 install was a bit easier and the standard power connections actually worked
Currently in Horatio's garage: 2010 Laguna III Initiale.
Thanks for the info Horatio and yes it is the Tomtom GO 300, it is positioned just inbetween the radio display and the dash which is ideal for viewing it but it can take a couple of mins to get a signal which when it does can then be up and down and mess about a bit so prob best if I get an antenna if I dont feel comfortable with it high up in the dotted area.
