I completely agree. I have a mate with 2x 12" Subs and 6x9's in the rear. Then just 6x4 coax in the front. When you sit in the front it sounds a bit pants because all you hear is the subs in the rear, but that's what he likes so I leave him to it.

In my laguna I have a single 12" sub in a box that is the right size for it, 16.5cm coax in the rear side pods and will soon have some Infinity Kappa components up front. I know that my audio sounds clear and not distorted by too much bass. Plus the sound-stage is up front, it's so much more enjoyable than his!

That's what most people do when they first try and get into car audio. They see something in Max Power and think "I'll do that!", so they trundle off to Halfords and walk out £500 lighter with a load of boxes of kit.

Nothing wrong with that, but sadly Max Power isn't especially informative when it comes to installs, so people naturally assume that bigger equals better, and then realise that they haven't really got a clue how to install it.

It is gratifying to go to some of the sound-off shows to have people sit in a demo car (not necessarily mine!) and then come out open-mouthed and start ranting and raving to their friends about how much better it sounded. As soon as people break from the herd, and think about how they're going to install their kit...they are usually quite shocked to find that they don't usually need to spend much more money, just buy the right products and install them well, to get a sound that is leagues apart from what they are used to hearing.

It's an addictive hobby though, especially once you see some of the nice, shiny things available!
