Sorted - For anyone else who has the same problem. In the inner door skin (the part that is in the curved section of the rear wheel arch) you will find a rubber grommet. Remove the rubber grommet and behind it you will find a tork head screw.
GENTLY, unscrew it (it will not unscrew all the way) and then pull the handle grab outward (as if you are going to open the door.
Then place a wide flat screwdriver between the base of the 'cap' (shaped like a flat 'D') at the end of the handle pointing toward that back of the car and gently prise it outward. What initially looks like a cap is actually a very robust piece of plastic abou 2" long and is not easy to break.
When the cap is removed (from the inside of the door skin) slide the handle toward the back of the car. Job Done!
