I finally got round to buying my headlight unit and got it fitted on sunday. The unit cost 35 (all in) from a shop on eBay and it arrived 3 days after i bought it.

Of course I tried to ignore the bit in the manual that says 'remove bonnet and front bumper' and started removing the current broken headlight unit. I obviously discovered why haynes tells you to remove the bonnet and bumper: part of the unit it sort of trapped underneath part of the bumper.

It took me about 3 hours to do (im not experienced at all at maintenance / car diy - only ever changed bulbs and windscreen wipers), and that included a couple of blips with the splash guard screws (very tricky to get off - had to deflate tyres) and a couple of rusty bolts on the underside of the bonnet. Other than that, very easy job and only cost me 35 and 3 hours of time! cheers for the info guys
