I'm up to 5k so far, and either I'm getting used to it or the performance is improving. The biggest headaches are waiting for the thing to go 'on boost' and ' turbo lag' (which is a lot more noticeable than I thought it would be.) Give me a normally aspirated petrol engine any day.

I'm used to the early gear change now. It was causing me some serious problems at first, as I'd hoof it out into a space on a busy roundabout only to run out of puff in first before I was ready to change up. For everything but outright acceleration, it wipes the floor with the old IDE , and it's an absolute dream for towing.

I'm in two minds over the 2.0 diesel. An extra 20 horses would be most welcome, but it's taken Renault this long to get the bugs out of the 1.9, and I was well aware of the dog's dinner that they made of the 2.0 IDE . They've gone to town on technology on the new 2.0, with piezo-injectors and all kinds of other clever gubbins, and going for untried and untested Renault engine technology sounds like a bit of a gamble to me. At least that's what I'll try to keep telling myself rather than wishing I'd waited for the more powerful donk
