My thoughts exactly PJ. The car had been in a toasty warm garage the previous night as well.
I had a similar fault on my old Clio (S Reg) but it stopped half-way through a wipe. Took it in to Renault and they said 'no faults found'. After the car came out of warranty the motor did pack up and I had to replace it myself.
The problem the other day seemed as if some interlock was stopping power getting to the motor, which then reset itself at the next application of power from the ignition system.
