It's a 'feature.' Whether or not it's an intentional one, and what it's purpose might be is open to debate. If you press the START button with the card not fully inserted, then it switches the car out of auto-start mode and you have to hold down the button to keep it cranking. Do the same again, and it'll switch back into auto-start mode.
