sounds to me like the MOT is probably gonna get harsher for older or all cars remember the talk sometime back they were talking about two yearly MOT maybe to do with that leave 10 yo cars as yearly MOT only a thought .
Personally, i do think the MOT should be harsher. for example, my scenic sailed through last time, although it has a loud clunk at the rear when it's loaded going over bumps, but they don't test for things like that. I must get that sorted. I Would've got it sorted at the MOT if it had failed.

In the past i've had cars pass with clicking CV joints, but the boots were OK and thats all that matters for the MOT. I even got one through with an exhaust bandage covering a hole in the exhaust, it didn't last long but at least I had my MOT.
