The pattern seems to suggest that from 53 the problems are less frequent, possibly 03.
Mines done 98k and touch wood has only had the kind of faults any other car could have had, like has been said - if it's done a lot of miles and was a lemon you'd expect quite a few previous owners, if it's had 1 and the history is clean then fingers crossed - what more can you do other than maintain it? A car is a hole in your wallet - it's only the size of the hole that differs.
I've had Mondeos before and I prefer this to the Mk3 - it's taken a bit of getting used to but I rather like it.
If it dies I'm getting a dinghy.
