Labour cost for changing the engine at my small local garage, 100. Labour cost for removing and replacing the head isn't much less. Then you pay for the head skimming, new bolts, new gasket, and maybe find you haven't cured the problem. If the replacement engine's reasonably cheap (maybe cheaper to buy a damaged car) then it's a viable proposition. Otherwise there will be some good parts for sale!
