I also get black smoke when i accelerate hard.Checked the EGR valve and its clean as a whistle. Also had a gander at the air filter but that was clean as expected (serviced 5000 miles ago)! Another wierd thing is my fuel consumption. Before i serviced it last time i was getting around 38 to the gallon around town. Just done an oil and filter change and i now get 41-42 to the gallon! I try to change the oil every 6 months because the wife only does short runs in it but im off to Cornwall next week for a break so 400 miles of Italian boot should get rid of my black smoke woes.......... I Hope!!!!!!
A friend of mine once said the best way to get your diesel through the emmissions is to add around a gallon of petrol to a full tank of diesel.I wouldn't recomend it,but he said it worked every time for him.
