Brake caliper painting

Does the same apply to brake caliper paints? Mine are becoming to look dog rough

Also any idea what colour this caliper would have been new. (The car is pure white)

Finally a self leveling brush paint procedure would be good, you see I don't really want to remove the calipers if at all possible, even though I know it's by far a better proposition.
