There is a nack to using the pressure washer - I agree it doesn't get car clean - it does, as said before clean crud from underwheel arches well. I use ours because it is so much quicker than using a normal hosepipe. The only extra effort required is to plug the pressure washer into the mains - and attatch the hoses.
I still "wash" the car by hand with a sponge and a bucket of casr shampoo - saving the pressure washer for the initial wet down and final rinse.
I seem to remember that Karcher washers were either a high pressure "needle jet" or low - nothing in between. I have a Bosch and the lance can be adjusted - I only ever use it on the "wide - fan shaped spray pattern" - which is slightly less pressure but covers a greater area more eeffectively.
