Renault Clio I - Wheels and Tyres - Rumbling noise from front end
Trying to trace the noise coming from the front end of my son's Clio hasn't proved easy. The car made a horrible noise that suddenly disappeared everytime the wheel turned slightly to the right. It came back again as soon as the car started to strighten up.
At first I thought it was the bearing on the drivers side but changing that made no difference.
Then I noticed that the Dogbone Gearbox mounting was rubbing against the exhaust but it's not that either.
Finally I followed a clue from another member and raised the car on two axle stands before starting it up and seeing if I could spot what where the noise was coming from. My son put the car in fourth gear and released the clutch as advised. At first both wheels turned as expected but suddenly the driver's side stopped turning and now I suspect that there could be something wrong with a part between the gearbox and the hub.
Does this ring any bells with other members, or does anyone have any ideas what I could do next. I'm wondering if I should now bite the bullet and call in a mechanic.
